Role Overview
As a Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer, you will be instrumental in monitoring IT infrastructure, conducting first-level troubleshooting for network and system issues, and providing incident management support. This position is central to ensuring the stability and continuous availability of services in a 24/7 operational setting. You will serve as the primary support contact within the NOC, responsible for accurately logging incidents, escalating unresolved problems, and maintaining detailed documentation throughout the incident lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor servers, network devices, applications, and services through prescribed NOC monitoring platforms.
- Detect and respond to network alerts, performance degradation, or outages in real time using established SOPs.
- Execute first-level diagnostics, such as connectivity tests (ping, traceroute), interface checks, and basic log reviews.
- Log all incidents, detailing actions taken, updates, and progress within the ticketing system (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA, Remedy).
- Escalate complex or unresolved issues to the appropriate support tiers, providing comprehensive troubleshooting documentation.
- Conduct routine operational checks and health verifications for network environments, ensuring reliability and service quality.
- Participate in maintenance activities by monitoring environments during scheduled changes and reporting abnormalities.
- Handover shift information clearly, ensuring ongoing issues and actions are well-communicated during rotational 24/7 coverage.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, or a similar discipline.
- One to three years’ experience in network operations, IT support, or a comparable technical support role.
- Experience working within a continuous, shift-based operational framework is preferred.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Zabbix, Nagios, ManageEngine, or similar) and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Remedy, JIRA).
- Good understanding of fundamental networking principles: IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing/switching.
- Capability to adhere to incident management processes, SOPs, and escalation protocols.
- Exposure to ITIL processes is advantageous; holding ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Network+, or CCNA certification is a plus.
Professional Skills and Competencies
- Strong skills in documentation, ticket management, and reporting.
- Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate with both team members and higher-tier support.
- Proactive problem-solving aptitude and the ability to remain composed under pressure.
- Meticulous attention to detail and punctuality during shifts and handovers.
- Collaborative nature with a continuous improvement outlook.
Working Schedule
- This role functions within a 24/7 rotational shift system, requiring flexibility and adherence to assigned schedules.
