Mechanical Designer (Contractor)

About the Role

Giffen Consulting Ltd., a trusted engineering service provider specializing in mining, utilities, and heavy industrial sectors, is seeking experienced Mechanical Designer contractors to join our team remotely from Toronto, Ontario. We pride ourselves on delivering tailored engineering solutions with strong client and internal collaborations based on accountability and open communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer detailed mechanical design and drafting assistance.
• Create 3D mechanical models using Inventor or SolidWorks, ensuring integration with overall plant layouts.
• Develop technical drawings of mechanical equipment, piping, and structural steel plate components utilizing AutoCAD and Inventor tools.
• Perform design analysis of mechanical equipment and process systems while adhering to client criteria and guidelines.
• Interpret complex multidisciplinary drawings that include civil, structural, architectural interfacing with piping, process, and electrical disciplines.
• Generate material take-offs and equipment inventory lists.
• Conduct thorough quality reviews of all project documents for compliance with standards and scope before issuance.
• Contribute input related to tendering, contract management, scheduling, and budgeting to ensure project adherence to specifications.
• Compose and review technical documentation such as reports, equipment, and construction specifications.
• Engage actively with vendors, clients, and other stakeholders to facilitate cooperation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
• At least seven years of progressive experience as a Mechanical Designer, particularly on mining and heavy industrial projects.
• Experience with greenfield and brownfield project environments.
• Proficient in mechanical equipment and plant layout design.
• Familiarity with mechanical design and analysis software like Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Navisworks is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

Additional Information

This is a contractual position compensated at contract rates, allowing remote work from Toronto, Ontario. The role is part of our Engineering department focused on delivering expert solutions within mining and heavy industrial engineering domains.
