Position Overview
Join Queensland Government as a Manager in Science Policy, driving influential policy and regulatory programs that foster innovation, scientific prominence, and industry expansion in Queensland. This leadership role requires expertise in science policy, excellent stakeholder engagement, and a focus on delivering impactful public outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and management oversight to a science policy or project team.
- Utilize specialist knowledge to perform complex analysis, negotiation, and collaboration on science policy, legislation, regulatory matters, and strategic government planning.
- Oversee the team’s legislative agenda involving biodiscovery, including ongoing administration, process reviews, business improvements, and active engagement with First Nations communities, research institutions, and Commonwealth agencies.
- Manage gene technology legislation, reforms, policy, operational issues, and consultations with research organizations and the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator.
- Collaborate with other managers to advance the science policy priorities.
- Lead the creation of well-researched policy documents, project plans, cabinet submissions, briefs, reports, and formal submissions.
- Direct team activities by setting objectives, managing workloads, fostering a supportive environment during changes, supervising performance, and aiding career development.
- Champion a workplace culture that promotes safety, respect, inclusion, and is free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

- Comprehensive understanding of departmental structure, functions, governance framework, and leveraging this knowledge to meet objectives.
