Job description
Job Overview
This role is responsible for managing incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence for all departments within the city. The position requires processing mail, maintaining mailing equipment, and coordinating with postal services to ensure efficient mail handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail, collect mail from the post office, and distribute it to respective city departments.
- Verify outgoing mail and apply postage using automated postage metering machines.
- Manage bulk and special mailings by operating inserting and folding machines, sorting mail via zip codes, preparing bulk mail reports, and delivering bulk mail to the post office.
- Maintain mailing equipment and supplies by performing regular inspection, cleaning, and ensuring sufficient inventory of materials.
- Operate city vehicles safely, including performing pre- and post-trip inspections, loading and unloading materials, and completing the necessary documentation for vehicle use and maintenance.
- Complete and file various forms, reports, work orders, and records related to mail and vehicle operations.
- Communicate with supervisors, city employees, postal workers, consultants, and the public to coordinate work and resolve issues.
Qualifications
- Preferred high school diploma or GED.
- Experience in mail delivery or mailroom operations is advantageous.
- Must hold a valid driver's license; must obtain and maintain a valid Louisiana driver's license upon appointment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and operating automated mail and delivery equipment.
