St. Anselm's Abbey School in Washington, D.C., is seeking a full-time Librarian to manage its library services for grades 6-12. This role involves overseeing the school’s library collection and programming in a brand-new facility opening in the summer of 2026 within the Benedictine Learning Center. The librarian will serve as a vital resource for approximately 230 students and over 60 faculty and staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and expand the library’s collection and resources to align with the school’s mission and support curriculum needs for Middle and Upper School students.
  • Work closely with school leadership, department heads, and teaching staff to foster literacy, enhance research skills, and improve media literacy among students.
  • Supervise the physical library environment, ensuring it remains inviting and conducive to learning daily.
  • Instruct a Library Skills class twice weekly for sixth graders, collaborating with grade-level teachers to integrate interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Participate actively in school committees, including the Curriculum Committee and other relevant faculty groups.
  • Oversee students or small groups during designated study halls throughout the academic day.
  • Lead student book clubs or extracurricular activities related to literary engagement.
  • Provide advisory support to a select group of students as part of the school’s advisory program.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Library Science is required.
  • Experience in educational environments, preferably middle or high school library settings.
  • Competence with technology platforms and library-specific databases such as LibGuides and Follett Destiny, in addition to proficiency in Microsoft and Google software suites.
  • Prior teaching or collaborative experience with academic faculty is an advantage.
  • A genuine appreciation for adolescent boys and alignment with the mission and values of St. Anselm’s Abbey School.

Additional Information

This role is a full-time, 10-month appointment from mid-August to mid-June, with potential additional duties during the summer of 2026 related to the library relocation. The school is an independent Catholic Benedictine institution serving motivated young men in grades 6 through 12, with a diverse student body and a high academic standard.
