Position Overview

The University of Tasmania seeks a Lecturer to join the Australian Maritime College (AMC) within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, stationed in Launceston. You will contribute to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing high-quality instruction, supporting laboratory and project-based learning, and conducting applied research and consultancy related to maritime industries. The role falls under the Centre for Maritime Engineering and Hydrodynamics (CMEH), covering domains such as naval architecture and ocean engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach and inspire students across various maritime engineering programs.
• Engage in impactful, industry-relevant research addressing maritime challenges.
• Contribute to curriculum development and innovation in education and partnerships.
• Manage laboratory sessions, including physical scale model experiments at specialized facilities like the Towing Tank and Model Test Basin.
• Participate actively in AMC and CMEH leadership, administration, student recruitment, and community well-being efforts.
• Travel may be required domestically and internationally, with occasional weekend commitments.

Candidate Profile

• PhD completed or near completion in a relevant maritime engineering or related field.
• Proven or demonstrated potential for effective university-level teaching.
• Strong research track record nationally recognized, comprising quality publications, conference presentations, successful funding acquisition, and mentoring of honours students; capability to supervise higher research degrees is an advantage.
• Established connections with the maritime discipline, industry, and wider community locally and nationally.
• Proficient in the design and execution of physical scale model experiments with meticulous attention to detail, ideally in maritime hydrodynamics.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance and Australian citizenship is mandatory.
