Role overview
The Civil–Concrete crew at Higgins Wellington is expanding, and the business is seeking a dependable Labourer to support hands-on civil construction work across the region. This position suits someone who enjoys practical work, likes being part of a close team, and wants to grow a career in civil construction.
In this role, you will assist with civil and concrete delivery by helping with site set-up, preparation, and general construction support. You will work alongside operators, forepersons, and traffic crews to contribute to safe, efficient, and high-quality project outcomes.
Key duties
- Support civil and concrete works such as excavation assistance, backfilling, spreading, compacting, and preparing concrete
- Carry out general labouring duties including shovelling, sweeping, raking, and moving materials
- Set up work areas, safeguard surrounding assets, and help with site establishment and pack-down
- Act as a trained and authorised spotter for mobile plant when required
- Use small tools and equipment safely when appropriately trained
- Complete basic pre-start inspections for small plant and equipment
- Keep work areas clean, orderly, and ready for use
- Work to Work Plans, JSEAs, and supervisor directions to achieve the required standard
- Assist with environmental controls, spill response, and clean-up activities
- Cooperate closely with the crew and provide support to other teams as needed
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures and wear the required PPE
What you should bring
- A reliable, positive attitude and a willingness to learn
- Ability to handle manual labour and work safely around machinery and plant
- Experience in civil construction or roading labouring, while helpful, is not essential
- Good understanding of safe practices on construction sites
- Ability to take instructions and contribute effectively in a team environment
- A Class 1 driver licence is required
- Kerb machine experience, including extruded and cast in situ work, is an advantage
- Site Safe Passport, TTM Awareness/TC Basic, or First Aid certification is preferred
