Role Overview
The IT Engineer position is a full-time role based in Singapore with responsibilities involving both remote and on-board vessel IT support. This role demands hands-on involvement in technical support, installations, network maintenance, and problem-solving within diverse maritime IT environments. Travel to various vessels is integral to the job.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to technical support inquiries related to computers, networks, applications, and connectivity from vessels.
- Install new computer systems, network infrastructure up to Layer 2, and related software both onboard vessels and onshore.
- Maintain and update network infrastructure documentation for each vessel and collaborate with the support team to resolve issues remotely.
- Troubleshoot and fix hardware, software, and network problems efficiently.
- Oversee hardware and software inventory management for each vessel.
- Participate actively in project preparation and implementations as directed by the IT Manager.
- Gain exposure and work with various IT sectors including operational technology equipment, CCTV systems, WiFi infrastructure, and satellite communications.
- Attend scheduled vessel visits coordinated by the vessel coordinator or IT Manager.
- Support warehouse operations such as pickup, delivery, and packing when required.
- Conduct IT briefings for vessel and office personnel as needed.
- Perform additional IT-related duties assigned by the IT Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- At least one year of experience in a technical support role.
- Experience in the maritime or shipping sector is highly advantageous.
- Willingness and physical fitness to travel to islands and occasionally overseas to support, take over or assist new vessels (no onboard sailing required).
- Solid foundational knowledge in IT networking, Windows OS, MS Office, WiFi, network infrastructure, firewall configuration, VLANs, and routing.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays, based on vessel schedules.
- Ability to work independently, maintaining comprehensive documentation of work done.
- Strong motivation to learn and excel in the maritime IT engineering role.
