Role Overview

As an Investigator reporting to the Manager Investigations, you will undertake comprehensive fraud, regulatory, and safety investigations within Victoria's commercial passenger vehicle, bus, and maritime sectors. You will operate within an intelligence-led team focused on safeguarding public safety and strengthening trust in transport services through diligent enforcement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead complex inquiries involving fraud, regulatory breaches, and safety infringements.
• Analyze intelligence reports and complaints to pinpoint investigative leads.
• Collect and evaluate evidence employing modern investigative methods.
• Conduct fieldwork including surveillance and witness interviews.
• Interview relevant parties including witnesses and persons of interest.
• Utilize statutory powers in compliance with applicable legislation.
• Prepare detailed investigation reports, briefs for evidence submission, and propose enforcement actions.
• Represent ST Vic in judicial and legal forums.
• Collaborate effectively with internal units and external partners such as law enforcement agencies.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent qualification or relevant investigative experience.
• Possession of a current Victorian driver’s licence.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC), and baseline security clearance.
• Australian citizenship is mandatory.
• Willingness and ability to perform duties both at various workplaces and beyond the standard office setting.
• Flexibility to work outside regular business hours including occasional overnight and regional travel.
• Readiness for field-based investigation activities with potential exposure to sensitive or distressing material.

Additional Information

• Preferred applicants must complete pre-employment screening including National Police checks and reference verification.
• The role requires robust physical and mental readiness for investigative operations.
