Team and Role Summary
The Global Indirect Tax team operates within the EMEA VAT function located in Dublin, focusing on compliant and scalable marketplace growth. Collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal departments, the team ensures VAT compliance aligns with evolving regulations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The Indirect Tax Manager – EMEA VAT role centers on VAT strategy, compliance management, enabling technology, and risk mitigation. This position translates regulatory requirements into scalable operational solutions, facilitates cross-border trade, and enhances VAT governance. Reporting to the EMEA Indirect Tax team, the role also contributes to global tax initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain VAT compliance across multi-jurisdictions within EMEA, including EU VAT Directive, UK VAT, OSS/IOSS, and deemed supplier rules.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to improve VAT process accuracy and scalability, focusing on tax determination, reporting, and data integrity.
- Interpret complex VAT legislation into system logic and business requirements to optimize platform and tax engine functionality.
- Manage VAT compliance activities such as filing returns, coordinating with shared services and external advisors, and driving continuous process improvement.
- Handle VAT audits and interactions with tax authorities, formulating strategies for prompt and effective resolution.
- Stay informed on legislative updates and incorporate necessary changes into systems and business workflows.
- Provide clear VAT guidance and training across functions, supporting business expansions and governance frameworks.
Candidate Qualifications
- 7–8 years of indirect tax experience specializing in VAT within the EMEA region.
- Strong expertise in EU and UK VAT regulations, cross-border trade, and digital compliance mechanisms.
- Experience integrating VAT regulatory requirements into technology systems including tax engines and ERP platforms such as SAP S/4HANA.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex legislative frameworks into operational or system solutions.
- Proven track record in managing VAT audits and engaging effectively with tax authorities.
- Excellent collaboration skills with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal.
- Analytical aptitude for researching legislative changes and assessing business impact.
- Effective communication skills to convey complex VAT topics to diverse audiences.
- Background in public accounting or multinational corporate environments preferred.
- Degree holders in Tax, Accounting, Finance, Legal, Information Systems, or related fields; professional qualifications desirable.
- Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are advantageous.
- Experience with data analytics or AI-supported tools is a bonus.
- Ability to work in a hybrid setting based in Dublin office and across different time zones.
