Role Overview
The Import and Export (I&E) Documentation Specialist will manage and verify customs declarations for imported goods, ensuring accurate and compliant processing within Tanzanian customs regulations. This role requires detailed oversight from declaration through to tax payment and the final release of goods.
Primary Duties
- Verify and submit import customs declarations accurately in the Tanzanian customs system, overseeing each step including declaration, examination, inspection, valuation, tax payment, and release.
- Classify goods by inspecting names, materials, functions, and purposes to determine and declare the correct HS Codes in accordance with Tanzania and East African Community customs tariff regulations.
- Conduct thorough audits of invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and other related documents; verify cargo details and ensure compliance with TMDA, TBS, and other regulatory bodies.
- Efficiently use the customs clearance system to process declarations, address abnormalities such as inspections, valuations, or code adjustments, and coordinate promptly with internal departments to resolve issues.
- Maintain organized customs clearance desks, manage documentation and data related to taxes, fees, and customs statuses effectively.
- Stay informed on changes in Tanzanian customs policies, enforce company declaration standards strictly, and proactively identify and respond to special regulatory risks and pricing anomalies.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in international trade, logistics, customs, supply chain management, or related fields.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in customs clearance, declarations, or documentation roles specifically within Tanzania.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian import clearance procedures and customs declaration prerequisites.
- Awareness of common import regulations, including necessary licenses and certifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other administrative software tools.
- Detail-oriented with high responsibility and sensitivity towards documentation and numeric data.
- Capable of recognizing potential risks during customs clearance and adopting appropriate risk management measures.
