Position Summary

The Groundskeeper position plays a crucial role in enhancing the school environment by maintaining and improving gardens, grounds, sports fields, and other external areas. This is a full-time role based at Queen of Apostles Primary School in Stafford, commencing 31 August 2026, working 38 hours weekly during term time with a remuneration of $34.17 per hour plus superannuation.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance gardens, lawns, playing surfaces through activities such as top dressing, seeding, turfing, coring, planting, trimming, mulching, and fertilizing.
• Prepare sports ovals for events by marking and setting up playing fields.
• Supervise and participate in the installation, operation, and upkeep of pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems.
• Manage the safe use, storage, and documentation of organic and chemical pesticides, sprays, and fertilizers.
• Operate and maintain specialized machinery for turf management and conduct routine equipment maintenance.
• Oversee, train and guide grounds personnel, trades workers, and apprentices.
• Manage storage facilities, stock control, and maintain accurate records.
• Ensure a safe working environment for staff, students, and visitors.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience in garden, lawn, and playing field maintenance.
• Competency in operating and maintaining pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems.
• Ability to safely apply pesticides and fertilizers and skillful operation of related machinery.
• Strong organizational skills for managing stores, stock, and record keeping.
• Experience supervising and training teams including groundspeople, tradespeople, and apprentices.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
• Certificate III or equivalent tertiary qualification or completion of a relevant apprenticeship is highly regarded.

• Must be eligible to work within Australia for the duration of appointment.
• Possession or willingness to obtain a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card before starting.
