Role overview
Cubicle Fugitive is hiring a designer with strong creative judgment and proven experience across both brand identity and website work. The role combines building visual identities from the ground up with maintaining and evolving established brand systems. You will also produce client-facing collateral, campaigns, and digital assets for organizations that do serious, expert work.
The agency primarily serves professional services clients, so the design style is expected to be polished, corporate, and purposeful. The focus is on clear positioning, strong details, and design that helps clients attract and retain the right audience.
This is a full-time, permanent position on a hybrid schedule based in Hamilton, Ontario.
What you will do
- Create work across multiple formats, including logos, visual identities, supporting collateral, corporate websites, and campaign assets for digital, social, and video channels.
- Build and maintain brand systems, then adapt approved visuals consistently across decks, social content, websites, and other marketing materials.
- Work on production for a large portfolio of active brands, ensuring consistency while improving execution without weakening brand integrity.
- Start with the client’s business goals and audience needs, then shape design decisions around the result they need, not just the look of the work.
- Present ideas clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally, so clients and teammates understand the reasoning behind your choices.
- Use AI tools to speed up repetitive tasks, generate early layout options, and support faster exploration and production.
- Handle several projects and stakeholders at once while keeping quality, timing, and budget in check.
- Stay informed about developments in design, web, video, and AI, and share useful findings with the team.
Requirements
- A standout portfolio is essential and will be the main basis for evaluation; it should show breadth in both branding and web work, along with strong problem-solving and clear design thinking.
- Hands-on experience creating brand identities and designing or shaping user-friendly websites is required; coding is not necessary, but familiarity with UI/UX and buildable design is valuable.
- Roughly 4 or more years of experience in a design role is preferred, with more senior candidates also welcome.
- Formal design education can help, but practical experience and portfolio quality matter more than a specific degree.
- Strong working knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and related tools.
- Ability to work within brand systems as well as create them from scratch.
- Reliable ownership of work, including meeting commitments, asking for clarity early, and caring about results as much as output.
- Curiosity, adaptability, and a collaborative approach that supports feedback and practical problem-solving.
Preferred background
- Experience in an agency environment is a strong advantage, especially in settings where deadlines, budgets, and client constraints must be managed carefully.
- Background in professional services or corporate branding, such as legal, accounting, engineering, or healthcare clients, is considered useful.
- Ability to develop campaign concepts, headlines, or copy would be a plus.
- Experience with video editing, motion graphics, or photography is also beneficial.
Tools and working practices
- Design and motion tools: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, with Premiere Pro as a bonus.
- Web and UI/UX: Figma, including components, prototypes, and responsive design.
- Templates and content systems: PowerPoint, Word, and Canva.
- Email and marketing platforms: Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, or HubSpot.
- AI tools: tool choice is flexible, but the expectation is that they are used effectively to improve speed and exploration.
- File management and handoff discipline: clean organization, sensible versioning, and tidy transfers using Accelo and Dropbox.
How the team works
The studio values openness, flat structure, and respectful debate. Every team member is expected to contribute ideas and speak up when it improves the work. Strong viewpoints are welcome, but ego is not. The priority is always to arrive at the best outcome for the client, and the strongest idea should win regardless of who proposed it.
