Job Summary
The General Manager for West Africa leads the coherent execution of commercial strategies within GE HealthCare's Local Commercial Team (LCT), optimizing resources to maximize market potential. This role is charged with implementing the Africa LCT's go-to-market plan by working directly and indirectly with Product Leaders and Specialists to meet the operating plan goals. The General Manager oversees all sales activities and is accountable for the profit and loss of GE Healthcare operations in West Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure achievement of quarterly and annual operating plans for the Healthcare portfolio within the assigned region.
- Accurately forecast sales pipelines and revenue by product aligned with reporting cycles in the geographical zone.
- Contribute strategic insights for the annual business planning process.
- Manage sales revenue, profit margins, operating costs, orders, and cash flow priorities to meet business objectives with focus on impactful results.
- Identify and promote boundaryless sales opportunities and service offerings; escalate commercial service requirements as needed.
- Implement go-to-market strategies in coordination with modality leaders to address prioritized market potential.
- Align sales territories with market priorities, ensuring that account management and modality specialist resources are efficiently allocated.
- Develop and execute growth strategies for the Private, Public, and Regional business segments.
- Attract, train, and nurture a high-caliber commercial team to effectively implement the go-to-market approach.
- Guarantee account managers have clear customer engagement and opportunity management plans to ensure coverage of key decision makers throughout the sales cycle.
- Lead performance management through consistent feedback, coaching, and administering annual appraisals.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with key opinion leaders, customers, academia, government, and professional societies to gain deep market understanding.
- Maintain current market and competitor insights across GE Healthcare's product and service portfolio, boosting team knowledge on differentiators.
- Partner with product leadership and marketing to coordinate healthcare marketing events within the region.
- Collaborate with sales and project finance teams to design financial offerings tailored to customer needs.
- Enhance order booking accuracy and consistency as well as coordination between inventory and remittance processes.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, quality management systems, and legal regulations relevant to the position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Significant experience in business management, sales, or marketing with progressive leadership roles in healthcare and strong healthcare market knowledge.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity, guiding teams safely through complex regulatory environments.
- Proven record closing large, strategic deals.
- Deep understanding of healthcare or comparable industries.
- Strong financial acumen with capability to assess budgets and financial needs effectively.
- Leadership skills to motivate and organize teams, fostering inclusion and trust.
- Adept at influencing change and driving organizational transformation.
- Successful experience working with the South Africa Public Sector.
- Excellent presentation and communication abilities to engage customers and teams effectively.
- Insight into customer behavior and marketplace drivers.
- Ability to resolve complex issues and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Fluent English speaker.
- Extensive sales and leadership experience with a proven track record.
- Strong management background.
- Full work authorization with no legal restrictions for full-time employment.
