Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Facilities Engineer for our Stamullen, County Meath site. This full-time, Monday to Friday role is 100% onsite and focuses on maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical facilities and operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the engineering team to define and oversee maintenance and preventative activities, addressing facility-related troubleshooting.
  • Oversee the upkeep of all facilities, utilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Evaluate and develop proposals for plant upgrades and modifications.
  • Manage and contribute to the maintenance system relevant to the Facilities Engineering group.
  • Ensure all building repairs and upgrades are compliant with pharmaceutical standards.
  • Maintain and review facilities documentation ensuring adherence to GMP guidelines.
  • Manage contracts including utilities, security, cleaning, pest control, landscaping, fire protection, security alarms, access control, garments, and waste management.
  • Supervise facility contractors through pre-qualification, site entry, induction, permit to work, method statement approvals, lockout/tagout procedures, inspections, and exit processes.
  • Implement energy-saving measures to reduce utility costs.
  • Update operating procedures, documentation, and technical papers as necessary.
  • Lead recycling and sustainability initiatives within the facilities.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Engineering team to ensure smooth operation of all plant activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives such as TPM, Lean, Six Sigma, and Shingo methodologies.
  • Lead or support technical improvements under the department’s continuous improvement program.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills combined with strong assertiveness and mindfulness.
  • Plan and execute small to medium capital projects to successful completion.
  • Work closely with the Health & Safety department to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Perform validations of various facility systems as required.
  • Manage maintenance and facilities budgets effectively.
  • Coordinate remedial actions following audits.
  • Collaborate internally with engineering teams and other site stakeholders to deliver projects, product introductions, and capacity enhancements on a 24/7 operational basis.
  • Provide technical support for new product introductions and product transfers.
  • Address engineering-related documentation issues effectively.
  • Work with equipment vendors to resolve performance concerns.
  • Define, control, and document engineering operation practices rigorously.
  • Lead risk and gap assessments related to new or modified equipment and processes.
  • Lead or attend daily handover meetings to review ongoing issues or delegate as required.
  • Organize and supervise external contractors such as calibration, service, and cleaning teams.
  • Maintain exceptional cleanliness, hygiene, and GMP standards through effective management and leadership.
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned by senior management.
  • Set clear objectives, communicate goals effectively, and ensure timely progress and completion.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years’ experience in a comparable role within a GMP-regulated environment; manufacturing audit experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with facilities equipment maintenance best practices including CMMS and RCM.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean production and engineering techniques.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with proficient documentation abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Competence in budgeting and financial management.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office suites; knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
