Established in 1982, Darby Doors manufactures and distributes doors, millwork, hardware, bath accessories, and building specialties throughout the eastern United States. Located in Florence, Alabama, the company also operates Total Trim, which offers installation services for Darby Doors' products.
Role Overview
The Estimator role involves leveraging computer tools and mathematical expertise to accurately calculate required materials for home construction, complying with company guidelines and local building codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Calculate material quantities needed for residential construction according to company policies and building regulations.
- Support sales personnel by assisting with customer orders and preparing material lists.
- Help with trim take-off tasks as requested.
- Provide assistance and advice to contractors when needed.
- Conduct training for sales representatives on estimating procedures.
- Guide sales staff in blueprint analysis and construction methods.
- Compare estimated materials versus actual usage upon project completion.
- Manage hardware and sales counter duties when assigned.
- Ensure expenditures stay within company budget limitations.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned, adhere to company policies, maintain workplace safety standards, and complete mandatory training.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree in engineering or a related field.
- Between 1 to 3 years of experience related to construction and building materials.
- Proficient in reading blueprints and technical documents.
- Capable of interpreting construction plans that involve abstract and concrete elements.
- Skilled in operating networked computer systems and specialized software, with ability to train others in software use.
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good understanding of measurements and basic mathematics.
