Position Overview
This Estimating Engineer Co-Op role supports the estimating team by creating cost projections for fabricated, stamped, and machined parts in an industrial and aerospace manufacturing contract setting. The position involves collecting process data, defining manufacturing steps, estimating cycle times, developing routings and methodologies, and preparing detailed product cost estimates. Candidates will gain practical experience in engineering, manufacturing operations, and business processes within a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the estimating team to formulate cost estimates for components and assemblies involving fabrication, stamping, and machining.
- Assist in developing manufacturing routings, process workflows, and cost models for new and ongoing products.
- Collect and analyze manufacturing steps, labor hours, machine cycle times, setup durations, and material needs.
- Work alongside engineering, production, and operations teams to acquire precise manufacturing data and comprehend shop floor processes.
- Review technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to support accurate estimating.
- Identify risks, key cost factors, and potential process improvements related to manufacturing.
- Help maintain estimating databases, standards, and cost assumptions.
- Participate in evaluating manufacturing methods used in industrial and aerospace products.
- Observe and document actual production processes to enhance estimation accuracy and routing development.
- Engage in ongoing improvement initiatives focusing on estimating practices, manufacturing methods, and documentation.
Qualifications
- Must be a US citizen or permanent resident due to ITAR and EAR compliance.
- Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
- Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Genuine interest in manufacturing, machining, stamping, fabrication, and cost estimation.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and the ability to interpret engineering drawings.
- Capacity to read and understand blueprints, part prints, and technical specifications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel and other common business applications.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within teams.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to CAD software, GD&T, engineering drawings, ERP or MRP systems, or other manufacturing software tools.
- Familiarity with aerospace and industrial manufacturing settings.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, cycle times, and routing frameworks.
- Previous internship, co-op, shop floor, or other manufacturing experience is advantageous.
