Role Overview

As an Environmental Laboratory Chemist, you will perform chemical testing on environmental samples such as soil, water, air, and hazardous waste. Your role is vital for regulatory compliance and producing accurate, reliable data to support environmental assessments and projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct precise and timely analysis of environmental samples.
• Ensure laboratory activities comply with environmental regulations and maintain quality standards.
• Maintain and calibrate instruments crucial for laboratory testing.
• Accurately document and report test outputs.
• Promote laboratory safety and environmental preservation practices.

Detailed Job Duties

• Prepare samples through digestion, filtration, and dilution as dictated by standard operating procedures.
• Carry out chemical analyses using a range of lab instruments including GC-MS, ICP-AES, and ICP-MS.
• Apply EPA approved methods and keep updated with advances in analytical chemistry and regulations.
• Validate and help develop new testing methods and execute quality control measures.
• Responsible for cleaning, calibrating, and maintaining laboratory instruments and support equipment such as balances and ovens.
• Prepare data reports, verify results, and collaborate with teams to meet deadlines.
• Uphold ACZ's mission and values, adhere strictly to safety protocols, and perform assigned tasks responsibly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, geology, or a related hard science field.
• Laboratory experience in academic or professional settings, ideally with environmental or analytical chemistry exposure.
• Familiarity with environmental lab instruments and techniques preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Capability to work independently or collaboratively in dynamic environments.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods (2-6 hours) and lift between 25 to 50 pounds.

Additional Information

This opportunity will be open until the position is filled, with an initial review deadline of August 1, 2026. The hourly wage range for this role in Steamboat Springs is between $23.50 and $26.00.
