About Us

The Central Queensland Public Health Unit (CQPHU) is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to protecting and enhancing community health in the region. The team comprises experts in public health, nursing, environmental health, epidemiology, data management, and business services. Their work focuses on preventing disease, mitigating communicable and vaccine-preventable illnesses, and reducing environmental health hazards. CQPHU takes a proactive and community-centered approach to ensure the health, safety, and resilience of Central Queensland's populations.

Role Overview

• Enhance your expertise in environmental health to provide routine services and assist public health responses under Environmental Health Officers' supervision.
• Carry out environmental health surveys, site inspections, and community outreach, including offering training and support to Indigenous Community Environmental Health Workers.
• Contribute to incident and outbreak management collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to resolve public and environmental health challenges.
• Compile reports, create presentations, and communicate effectively on environmental health issues while fostering strong partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

• While there are no mandatory qualifications, candidates pursuing a tertiary degree in public or environmental health accredited by Environmental Health Australia and possessing environmental health experience will be preferred.
• Capable of independently planning, preparing, and implementing programs aligned with Public Health priorities, meeting deadlines and targets.
• Effective as a team member in a multidisciplinary environment, able to work with minimal supervision.
• Possesses knowledge regarding environmental risk factors influencing disease and understands comprehensive strategies to address these risks.

Compensation & Benefits

• The total salary package can reach up to $101,073 per annum, including:
• Hourly pay ranging from $40.17 to $44.67
• Employer superannuation contribution of 12.75%
