We are partnering with a leading Oil & Gas operator to recruit an Engineering Lead specializing in Electrical Power Supply for a long-term contractual engagement based in Doha, Qatar.
Position Details
- Title: Engineering Lead (Electrical – Power Supply)
- Location: Onshore, Doha Headquarters / Qatar Site
- Type: Long-term contract
- Work Schedule: Six days per week, approximately 8 to 10 hours daily, or as dictated by project demands
- Start Date: Immediately or within a one-month notice period
Key Responsibilities
The Engineering Lead will oversee the execution and technical compliance of electrical engineering work in line with client operations, policies, and project management systems. Main duties include:
- Leading electrical engineering design and planning activities to ensure EPC contractor delivers detailed designs adhering to local regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
- Resolving electrical discipline challenges and escalating issues when necessary to project management.
- Reviewing electrical simulations and optimizations related to large electrical generation and distribution systems, including high-voltage switchgear, motors (including large 40MW+ motors), variable frequency drives, and power management systems.
- Evaluating purchase orders for electrical equipment to guarantee safe integration into operational facilities, collaborating closely with contractors and vendors.
- Assessing plans and schedules to promote timely project progress and recommending strategies to overcome delays.
- Maintaining and updating electrical design philosophies, specifications, and procedures to ensure relevance and accuracy.
- Monitoring EPC contractor performance ensuring milestones and deliverables are met, and suggesting technical assistance where gaps exist.
- Coordinating and resolving discipline issues and providing electrical engineering guidance to other disciplines such as procurement and construction.
- Supporting commissioning, start-up, and system completion activities with recommendations on electrical matters.
- Leading interface coordination with offshore and onshore teams, including power supplier entities such as RLIC and Kahramaa and any relevant third parties.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is mandatory.
- At least 8 years of experience in piping engineering roles, with a minimum of 4 years in the Oil & Gas sector.
- Experience of at least 1 year in leadership roles such as supervision or contractor oversight.
- Preferably experienced on a major LNG project.
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering execution involving design standards, specifications, codes, safety criteria relevant to onshore LNG facilities and utility systems.
- Strong expertise with electrical equipment and systems covering high, medium, and low voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, power management, electrical system controls focused on reactive and active power sharing, and large motor drivers (40MW+).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and applicable industry codes.
- Experience handling high voltage and large-scale power design requirements onshore.
