About the Role
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a prestigious nonprofit news organization with over 240 years serving western Pennsylvania, seeks a seasoned reporter to cover one of the region's top beats: economic development in Pittsburgh, focusing closely on downtown revitalization.
Following a $600 million revitalization announcement in late 2024 by Governor Josh Shapiro aimed at transforming the city's business district, the reporter will monitor the project's progress, cover commercial development citywide, and share stories of key figures driving economic transformation in the area.
Responsibilities
- Generate a continuous flow of engaging articles delving into Pittsburgh's and the region's revitalization efforts.
- Break news specific to the economic development beat.
- Present stories using inventive and nontraditional means, incorporating visuals, social media, and data-driven elements.
- Team up with audience engagement and data teams to ensure widespread and effective distribution of stories across platforms.
- Coordinate with editors, reporters, and staff to cover intersecting topics related to the economic development beat.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least three years of professional journalism experience in a daily newsroom.
- Exceptional abilities in reporting, interviewing, and writing.
- Proven track record of creating original story ideas and exclusive reports.
- Sound news judgment capable of balancing daily news coverage with deeper enterprise stories.
- Capability to clearly and engagingly explain complex topics.
- Expertise in developing and maintaining sources across diverse communities and industries.
- Experience with social media and digital reporting tools to detect trends and engage audiences.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom focused on digital audience growth.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Dedication to journalistic ethics, accuracy, fairness, and public interest service.
