Overview
This role, based in Canada, invites an experienced professional to lead and shape the global brand presence and external communications strategy for a dynamic technology organization. As Director, External Relations, you will be responsible for developing impactful storytelling and managing key relationships to enhance credibility and thought leadership across diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement global public relations and analyst relations strategies to ensure consistent brand positioning and a strong market footprint.
- Forge and nurture connections with technology journalists, media outlets, editors, and influential industry figures.
- Drive analyst engagement programs by liaising with key analysts and research bodies, coordinating inputs from various internal teams.
- Support executives by preparing strategic messaging, briefing documents, talking points, and media training materials.
- Oversee production of press materials including releases, articles, opinion pieces, and pitches that reinforce company narrative.
- Manage relationships with PR and analyst relations agencies, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and performance standards.
- Monitor and evaluate communications performance, leveraging insights to optimize outreach efforts continually.
- Design and enact crisis communication plans in collaboration with legal counsel and executive leadership.
- Lead and mentor an External Relations team member, fostering professional growth and excellence.
- Develop scalable communication processes, playbooks, and reporting systems suitable for a growing, global company.
- Collaborate with departments such as Marketing, Product, Sales, and People to synchronize external communications with organizational priorities.
- Represent the company at conferences, analyst meetings, and other relevant industry gatherings.
Qualifications
- Over 10 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, and analyst relations environments.
- Between 3 to 5 years in senior management roles including director-level positions.
- Demonstrated leadership of PR and analyst relations in B2B technology, SaaS, staffing, or professional services sectors.
- Established network within technology media and industry analyst communities.
- Proven track record managing analyst evaluations such as Gartner Magic Quadrants, Forrester Waves, or similar market reports.
- Experience directing external agencies and managing direct reports.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior executives and cross-functional teams effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex ideas into persuasive narratives.
- Robust project management expertise handling multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Analytical approach to evaluating communication outcomes and refining strategies accordingly.
- Adept at working autonomously in a fast-paced, global, remote environment.
- Availability to travel occasionally for industry events and team meetings.
