Project Context

The Expo 2030 Riyadh is an international event centered on sustainable development, innovation, and transformative ideas under the theme "Foresight for Tomorrow." Running from October 2030 to March 2031, it expects over 40 million visitors. The 6 km² master plan accommodates 197 countries and 29 international organizations within a 491,100 m² exhibition space. Bechtel, in cooperation with Expo 2030 Riyadh Company, is managing infrastructure including early works, utilities, public spaces, transitioning to a legacy development post-event aligned with global sustainability standards.

Role Summary

The Design Manager for Mobility Systems will oversee the planning, review, coordination, and integration of mobility-related infrastructure, such as roads, highways, junctions, streetscapes, parking, Park & Ride facilities, pedestrian and cycling networks, and associated civil works. The position involves managing multidisciplinary consultants, ensuring design compliance with project requirements, and maintaining alignment with schedule and budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Mobility & Civil Infrastructure.
  • Day-to-day management of mobility infrastructure design packages.
  • Oversight of consultants handling roads, highways, transport infrastructure, parking, pedestrian and cycling environments, and related civil works.
  • Coordination of design activities across disciplines including planning, architecture, landscape, utilities, and security.
  • Leading technical reviews and resolving consultant feedback.
  • Monitoring consultant adherence to scope, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Ensuring design compliance with all project standards and requirements.
  • Managing interfaces between horizontal and vertical development packages.
  • Facilitating constructability, phasing, staging, and traffic management reviews.
  • Identifying risks, technical challenges, schedule constraints, and design conflicts.
  • Handling design changes and coordinating impact assessments.
  • Supporting engagement with authorities, operators, utility providers, and project teams.
  • Tracking all actions, deliverables, and approvals to completion.
  • Preparing technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership review.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or an equivalent international qualification.
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in transportation or civil infrastructure sectors.
  • At least 7 years in design management, engineering management, or lead engineering roles.
  • Experience with large-scale projects such as highways, transport infrastructure, airports, metro systems, or major expo developments.
  • Proven expertise managing multidisciplinary design teams and coordinating complex infrastructure interfaces.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder and authority management.
