Deli Manager/Chargehand

Overview

The Deli Manager/Chargehand will ensure the deli department runs smoothly and effectively, consistently delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service.

Key Qualifications

• At least 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience is preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of specific experience working with fresh food operations is desirable.
• Proven track record of meeting sales targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Strong understanding of gross profit and profit margins is essential.
• Comprehensive training and experience in HACCP and food safety standards with proven ability to comply with those requirements.
• Experience managing deli inventory, ordering stock, and minimizing waste.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Good numerical skills for budgeting and financial management.
• Capability to design staff rotas effectively while remaining within budget constraints.
• Excellent communication skills are vital.
• A genuine passion for food and creativity in developing fresh food offerings.
• Customer-focused leadership to cultivate a loyal and quality-oriented customer base.
• Leadership skills to inspire, support, and develop deli team members.

Main Responsibilities

• Arrange and prepare deli displays to ensure appealing presentation and layout.
• Drive sales and profitability across all deli categories.
• Be accountable for KPIs including sales, profit margins, waste management, pricing strategies, and promotional setups.
• Ensure correct implementation of planograms.
• Control waste and shrinkage in the deli department.
• Introduce innovative ideas for fresh food offerings by researching market trends and competitors.
• Share your enthusiasm for quality foods by educating customers on products, recipes, and recommendations.
• Lead training for all new deli employees.
• Handle all customer inquiries promptly and professionally, adhering to store policies.
• Adopt and promote new initiatives and updated working practices.

About the Location

This role is based at the Marley Park store, where the deli manager will oversee departmental performance including sales, margin, and waste management. The role demands a strong passion for food and people, with a requirement for at least 2 years' experience in the food sector. A strong focus on food safety and customer service is fundamental to this position.
