Overview
Join a rapidly expanding fixed income investment firm based in Sydney's CBD as a Data Scientist. You will become part of a high-achieving team of approximately 60 professionals, including an 11-member Data Science unit. Here, you'll contribute directly to investment decisions by tackling challenging quantitative problems and building advanced models and production systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement statistical and machine learning models tailored for fixed income markets.
- Develop, test, and refine quantitative research pipelines to handle complex data effectively.
- Manage and analyze extensive datasets from various sources to extract actionable insights.
- Conduct rigorous back-testing of investment models and assess research against prominent academic work.
- Convert research findings into scalable, maintainable production systems.
- Create clear, insightful data visualizations and communicate technical results to stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Portfolio Managers and team members to foster innovation and improve strategies.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a quantitatively intensive Engineering discipline.
- Possesses 1 to 2 years of commercial experience in data-related positions; recent graduates without experience will not be considered.
- Strong statistical modeling and data analysis skills.
- Proficient with R, Python, SQL, or similar analytical tools; familiarity with the R tidyverse is highly valued.
- Adheres to robust software engineering principles especially in collaborative codebases.
- Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- Intellectually curious with a cooperative attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Outstanding academic results are a plus, including ATAR above 99 and WAM over 85.

Working Conditions
- Full-time role, required to be on-site five days a week in the Sydney CBD office.
- Reports directly to the Head of Data Science within a team of 11 specialists.

Recruitment Process
- Introductory 30-minute call with the Head of Data Science.
- Two-day take-home technical assignment.
- Two-hour in-person technical and behavioral interview.
