Court Security Officer

About the Role

The Court Security Officer position in New Plymouth District & High Court is a permanent full-time opportunity focused on maintaining a safe and secure environment that allows safe access to justice without fear of intimidation or violence. Officers engage daily with diverse groups to ensure court safety, building strong community relationships and supporting professional services in uniform.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with varied individuals and groups.
• Perform security screening and operate surveillance technologies such as CCTV and electronic access controls.
• Collaborate with other agencies including Police, Corrections, legal professionals, and Judicial officers to facilitate secure court proceedings.
• Conduct patrols of public areas, perform building security checks, respond promptly to duress alarms, and manage security, health, and safety threats effectively.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience in customer service, security, defense, or government sectors is beneficial but not mandatory due to provided training.
• Proficiency and confidence in handling technology.
• Knowledge and experience in de-escalation techniques.
• Physical capability to participate and succeed in full-contact officer safety training.
• Must possess and maintain a valid, clean New Zealand driver's license and have a clear criminal background verified by police vetting.
• Understanding and respect for Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with insight into cultural considerations especially Tikanga Maori relevant to court security roles and the Ministry of Justice.

Additional Role Information

The position is a standard 40-hour work week from Monday to Friday, with paid overtime available and occasional Saturday shifts of a minimum of three hours. Travel to neighboring courts may be required based on operational needs, with expenses covered by the Ministry.

Salary and Application Process

The salary range for this position is from $60,729 to $80,794 annually, with the starting salary based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
