Job description

Overview

The Cluster Chief Accountant reports directly to the Assistant Director of Finance and is deeply versed in hotel accounting practices and taxation principles. This role involves maintaining both General and Sub Ledgers, while working closely with the Accounting Department to compile monthly and yearly financial reports. The Chief Accountant is also responsible for supervising the Accounts Payable Supervisor, Accounts Receivable Supervisor, and Income Auditor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the General Ledger (G/L) and Sub Ledgers (S/L), including accounts receivable, accounts payable ledgers, and journal entries.
  • Prepare recurring monthly journal vouchers relating to standard, prepaid, and accrued expenses.
  • Review payroll calculations handled by the Paymaster and record labor expenses in the accounting system through payroll journal entries.
  • Compute tax liabilities, employee benefits, and other payroll-related expenses, and generate corresponding journal vouchers.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of G/L and S/L, ensuring all balances match and verifying individual balance details.
  • Conduct daily bank reconciliation procedures.
  • Complete journal entries and vouchers, prepare trial balances, and submit all to the Director Finance Business Partner and Assistant Director of Finance for review and approval, followed by preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Deliver closing summaries to the Assistant Director of Finance.
  • Provide accounting procedural guidance to relevant departments and offer management advice to optimize accounting methods.
  • Assist with physical inventories and fixed asset counts.
  • Support the Assistant Director of Finance with business and payroll tax calculations and payments.
  • Help conduct Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring filing and documentation accuracy.
  • Prepare and furnish necessary documentation for internal and external audits concerning hotel accounting.

Additional Duties

  • Supervise, train, and manage relevant accounting staff effectively.
  • Temporarily assume responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Finance during absences.
  • Adhere to company policies and operate within the defined budgetary limits.
  • Execute additional reasonable tasks as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain departmental policies and manuals ensuring consistent implementation across the group.
  • Participate actively in recruitment and talent development for the accounting division.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, maintaining brand integrity and clarity.
  • Exemplify company culture, vision, mission, and core values continuously.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Outgoing, mature professional with a leadership mindset capable of managing a team.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong analytical and goal-oriented leadership qualities.
  • Fluency in English and the local language as applicable.
  • Competence in computer usage, particularly MS Office applications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA and SOCPA are preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in hotel accounting, particularly in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and uniform accounting systems.
