Base Metal Trader

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled Base Metals Trader to enhance and expand our Client's metals trading operations. The individual will lead international sourcing and sales activities in the base metals sector, including aluminum, copper, zinc, lead, nickel, and related non-ferrous metals.

Key Duties

• Establish and operate procurement and sales networks for base metals internationally.
• Forge and sustain strong relationships with producers, smelters, refiners, manufacturers, traders, and end-users around the world.
• Identify and carry out physical trading deals including import/export activities.
• Analyze market fundamentals, supply-demand balance, price trends, and arbitrage opportunities.
• Negotiate commercial agreements, contracts, and logistics with trading counterparts.
• Oversee entire trade processes from deal sourcing through execution and delivery.
• Work closely with logistics, operations, finance, and risk teams to guarantee seamless trade completion.
• Drive business development to broaden company market reach both in existing and new regions.
• Perform market visits and travel internationally to reinforce business relations and discover opportunities.
• Ensure all trading complies with internal risk policies, regulatory standards, and company guidelines.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related fields.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience in physical commodity trading, specifically within base or non-ferrous metals sectors.
• Demonstrated handling of metal products like aluminum, copper, zinc, lead, and nickel.
• Established contacts spanning upstream to downstream components of the base metals supply chain.
• In-depth knowledge of international trade dynamics, contract frameworks, logistics, and pricing models.
• Proven capability to independently originate, negotiate, and close profitable trades.
• Strong commercial insight with excellent negotiation and relationship building talents.
• Ability to evaluate market trends and pinpoint trading prospects.
• Fluent English communication skills; additional languages advantageous depending on market focus.
• Willingness to undertake global business travel as required.

Preferred Profile Traits

• Existing networks with smelters, refiners, mines, processors, manufacturing units, trading firms, or industrial buyers.
• Good understanding of London Metal Exchange (LME) pricing and risk management protocols.
• Successful track record in growing and maintaining profitable trading portfolios.
