Backend Developer

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Backend Engineer to join our technology team in Kolkata. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the backend systems behind innovative products like a food-ordering platform and an AI-driven video processing and clipping platform.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement scalable backend applications primarily using Python and the FastAPI framework.
• Create and manage RESTful APIs utilized by web and mobile clients.
• Design and maintain PostgreSQL databases with efficient schemas, indexes, and optimized queries.
• Implement secure authentication mechanisms, user roles, and authorization models.
• Develop asynchronous background tasks using tools like Celery and Redis to handle workflows such as AI and video processing, notifications, and automation.
• Integrate various third-party APIs, payment gateways, and webhook services.
• Build backend services to support multi-user SaaS platforms and handle workflows involving large files and video processing.
• Ensure robust error handling, detailed logging, retries, validation, and performance monitoring.
• Optimize database operations and backend performance for responsiveness.
• Develop secure file upload, storage, and access solutions using cloud storage like S3-compatible object stores.
• Write clean, modular, and well-documented code alongside unit and integration tests with Pytest.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold high development standards while collaborating with AI/ML engineers, frontend and Flutter developers, DevOps, and QA teams.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to architectural decisions as systems scale.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience developing backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python programming language.
• Hands-on experience with FastAPI, Django, or similar backend frameworks.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and backend architectural principles.
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL querying.
• Experience working with Redis and asynchronous task processing.
• Familiarity with Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or related queue technologies.
• Solid grasp of authentication and authorization techniques including JWT and OAuth.
• Comfortable with Docker containers and Linux operating systems.
• Strong version control skills using Git (GitHub or GitLab).
• Experience integrating third-party APIs, webhooks, and payment gateway solutions.
• Knowledge of database performance optimization including indexing and transactions.
• Ability to write automated tests using Pytest or equivalent frameworks.
• Understanding of cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Ability to design modular and scalable backends with strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, along with independence and ownership mentality.

Additional Advantages
