Associate Editor - Disney Publishing

About the Position and Team

At the core of Disney's mission is storytelling that captivates and inspires audiences globally. Disney Publishing Worldwide crafts memorable stories across many beloved brands and franchises. We are looking for an Associate Editor to join the Disney Press editorial team, supporting the creation and delivery of captivating print and digital content. This role offers collaboration with editors, writers, designers, licensors, and various partners to bring stories to life for readers of all ages in a dynamic creative setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee editorial development and production cycles for global print and digital projects.
• Manage assigned titles throughout all publishing stages from initial concept to final file submission.
• Thoroughly review manuscripts and layouts to uphold editorial quality and ensure alignment with brand and franchise standards.
• Coordinate approvals and gather feedback from multiple stakeholders including licensors, authors, freelancers, and external publishing allies.
• Maintain project timelines by tracking milestones and ensuring on-schedule delivery of outputs.
• Partner with creative, production, marketing, franchise, and legal teams to successfully launch publishing programs.
• Contribute innovative ideas to enhance content quality, streamline workflows, and improve the overall reader experience.
• Advocate for Disney’s standards of superior storytelling across all publishing formats and audiences.

Qualifications and Desired Skills

• A passion for books, storytelling, and Disney’s iconic brand portfolio.
• Proven editorial skills including copyediting, proofreading, and manuscript assessment.
• Strong organizational aptitude combined with effective project management capabilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and dedication to follow-through.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• A cooperative mindset and readiness to work cross-functionally.
• Experience of at least 2 years in editorial, publishing, media, or related content creation fields.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Bachelor's degree or comparable experience preferred.
• Background in children's media publishing, licensed content, or entertainment publishing is advantageous.
• Familiarity with digital publishing formats and established workflows beneficial.
• Knowledge of Disney and related franchises is highly favorable.
• Experience collaborating with freelance contributors and external publishing partners desirable.

Compensation and Additional Information

The salary range for this Florida-based position is $51,500 to $68,900 annually. Actual pay depends on factors like experience, skills, and geographic location. Compensation may also include bonuses and/or long-term incentive units alongside a comprehensive benefits package encompassing health coverage, savings plans, educational opportunities, and exclusive Disney perks.

This is a full-time, onsite role reporting to the Director of Editorial.
