AI Character Experience Designer

Overview

We are looking for an imaginative and user-centric AI Character Experience Designer specialized in creating compelling, intuitive, and emotionally rich experiences involving AI-driven characters, digital humans, and virtual personas. This role bridges disciplines such as experience and interaction design, character creation, storytelling, psychology, and AI.

Key Responsibilities

• Craft comprehensive end-to-end user experiences for AI characters and virtual personas.
• Define user engagement pathways from discovery to relationship development with AI characters.
• Develop interaction journeys including onboarding, initial encounters, conversations, recurring engagements, and long-term interaction plans.
• Design captivating conversational and multimodal interfaces encompassing text, voice, visual, spatial, and interactive elements.
• Integrate character identity, personality traits, and behavioral rules into user-facing experience designs.
• Create interaction schemes that ensure AI characters are perceived as responsive, comprehensible, and emotionally resonant.
• Develop journey maps, flowcharts, storyboards, and detailed experience documentation.
• Tailor scenarios for diverse users, contexts, affective states, and interaction objectives.
• Collaborate closely with character designers and writers to maintain character consistency and narrative integrity.
• Coordinate with behavioral experts to align character reactions with user needs and emotional cues.
• Work alongside AI engineers to guarantee feasible implementation within AI system capabilities and restrictions.
• Design conversational frameworks including prompts, interaction cues, and fallback strategies for handling unexpected interactions.
• Enable experiences that allow characters to remember past user interactions to sustain meaningful continuity over time.
• Incorporate relationship-building elements fostering familiarity, trust, engagement, and evolving user-character bonds.
• Collaborate with teams handling voice, animation, motion, and performance to integrate both verbal and non-verbal character expressions seamlessly.
• Prototype experiences using generative AI, conversational AI, and interactive prototyping tools.
• Conduct user testing and analyze interaction data to identify and address points of friction, confusion, disengagement, or unnatural behavior.
• Establish experience design guidelines and standards to ensure consistency across platforms and products.
• Research and integrate advanced methodologies in AI companions, digital humans, conversational interfaces, synthetic characters, immersive experiences, and multimodal interaction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in fields such as UX/UI Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Game Design, Digital Media, Communication, Artificial Intelligence, or related disciplines.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in UX design, interaction design, experience design, conversational design, digital products, interactive media, or game development.
• Proven track record designing user experiences involving interactive characters, conversational systems, digital humans, AI products, or immersive environments.
• Strong grasp of user-centered design and human-computer interaction fundamentals.
• Knowledge of character development, storytelling, personality dynamics, behavior, and emotional engagement.
• Experience in crafting conversational or multimodal user experiences is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with generative AI, large language models, conversational AI, or AI-powered agents.
• Capability to translate sophisticated character and AI concepts into clear, engaging user journeys.
• Expertise in creating user journeys, experience maps, interaction flows, prototypes, and detailed specifications.
• Excellent understanding of user motivation, behavior, engagement, and emotional response patterns.
• Ability to balance creativity with usability, accessibility, and technical considerations.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, designers, writers, artists, and performance professionals.
• Strong communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
• Experience with prototyping tools and AI-powered creative technologies is advantageous.
• Fluent in English; additional language skills are a plus.
• A portfolio showcasing UX interaction design, AI experiences, conversational interfaces, interactive characters, digital humans, games, or immersive projects is highly recommended.
