Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Utility Operator role involves operating a variety of heavy machinery such as loaders, excavators, haul trucks, graders, bulldozers, skid steers, and water trucks as per operational demands. This position plays an integral part in daily coordination with other site operations, requiring precise, timely, and correct execution of tasks crucial to overall facility operations.
- Operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, haul trucks, graders, bulldozers, skid steers, and water trucks.
- Load tractor-trailers and dump trucks efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the facility.
- Construct and dismantle concrete forms.
- Mix and pour concrete and castable materials.
- Perform or support minor maintenance and repair tasks.
- Assist with cleanup activities before and after maintenance procedures.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with truck drivers and customers.
- Document equipment downtime and corrective actions taken.
- Refuel and clean loaders regularly.
- Comply with all CEMEX and OSHA/MSHA safety regulations, wearing required protective gear while onsite.
- Strive to meet or surpass company safety standards.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Skills
- Preferred minimum education: High school diploma.
- Bilingual abilities are considered an advantage.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work involves continuous exposure to harsh weather conditions including extremes of heat, cold, and noise; duties are performed outdoors.
- Use of mandatory protective equipment is required while onsite.
- Job requires considerable physical activity including walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
- The role entails heavy labor with exertion of up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly.
- Communication with staff and visitors requires regular talking and hearing abilities.
- Perform manual controls involving pushing, turning, and pulling motions.
- Passing a physical examination including back X-ray, hearing test, and drug/alcohol screening is mandatory.
