Software Engineer - Azure Kubernetes Service Infrastructure

About the Role

This role is part of the Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) Node Lifecycle team, which is dedicated to managing Kubernetes nodes to relieve customers from this complexity. The team ensures that all nodes are equipped with the latest Kubernetes and Azure functionalities while maintaining strict security and compliance standards. As a Software Engineer, you will focus on enabling AKS users to access diverse operating system distributions, supporting the rapid adoption of new Kubernetes versions, and integrating cutting-edge container runtime and Kubernetes node features. A unique aspect of this position includes facilitating customer access to advanced AI hardware through AKS for building training labs. This position offers an excellent path for developing deep Kubernetes expertise and contributing to the future of AI on AKS.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, create, and optimize operating system images for AKS nodes utilizing tools such as Packer.
• Oversee and maintain CI/CD pipelines responsible for building, testing, and publishing virtual machine disk images.
• Manage installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex GPU and network drivers on AKS nodes, supporting various GPU types.
• Enhance performance and resolve issues in the node provisioning process.
• Implement robust security protocols and ensure system compliance with industry security standards.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and produce detailed documentation of processes and configurations.
• Monitor system health, respond to incidents promptly, execute root cause analysis, and uphold system reliability.

Qualifications

Mandatory:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience coding in languages such as Golang, C++, C#, or Python.
• At least one year of experience in two or more of the following areas: Linux or Unix-like server environments, Windows server environments, container technologies/Kubernetes/cloud native platforms, or cloud infrastructure platforms such as Azure.
• Ability to comply with Microsoft and government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hire and every two years thereafter.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools and workflows like Azure DevOps, GitHub, or GitLab.
• Proven track record of collaborating on and maintaining medium to large scale software projects developed by multiple engineers.
