नौकरी का विवरण

Role Overview

You will be responsible for designing the complete user experience for semiconductor engineers as they plan, set up, perform, and analyze experiments using advanced quantum sensing and metrology equipment. This design effort covers every stage of the journey starting even before software use, including experiment planning, sample handling, instrument setup, measurement, data interpretation, and reporting.

Your primary focus will be on the software platform; however, you will also design workflows that integrate hardware and software components seamlessly. You will evaluate how users interact with physical devices, samples, controls, system statuses, and digital interfaces to improve usability, reliability, and workflow efficiency.

Collaborating closely with engineers, physicists, data scientists, machine learning experts, and customers, you will lead design initiatives from initial discovery and analysis through validation and implementation. This position offers the chance to influence products at the confluence of scientific instrumentation, software engineering, hardware design, and user-centered design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design holistic user experiences spanning experiment planning, sample mounting, instrument setup, calibration, testing, data analysis, and reporting, gaining deep insight into lab workflows, user objectives, constraints, and error sources.
  • Create detailed user journey maps across physical and digital touchpoints, identifying pain points, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop workflows and user interfaces for the quantum sensing software platform, progressing from conceptual ideas to finalized specifications for implementation.
  • Conduct research including contextual inquiry, interviews with customers, observation of workflows, and usability testing with internal and external users.
  • Prototype and assess software interactions and adjacent hardware workflows such as instrument setup, system feedback mechanisms, and error handling.
  • Produce user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and comprehensive interaction documentation using Figma.
  • Design effective visual representations for measurement data, simulations, system states, uncertainties, confidence levels, and error indications.
  • Engage with cross-disciplinary teams—engineers, physicists, machine learning specialists—and product stakeholders to translate requirements and constraints into practical design solutions.
  • Lead design reviews, communicate rationale and compromises clearly, and support engineering during implementation to maintain quality standards.
  • Develop and upkeep a scalable design system that covers the software platform and related instrument interactions.
  • Contribute actively to product discovery, feature prioritization, and documentation of research, workflows, design decisions, and interaction models.
  • For senior candidates: Lead complex cross-product design initiatives, shape product strategy, mentor teammates, and introduce best design practices across the organization.

Candidate Profile

  • Experienced in designing intricate B2B, scientific, industrial, or data-intensive products with a strong portfolio illustrating research, workflow and interaction design, prototyping, validation, and teamwork with engineering teams.
  • Skilled in conceptualizing and improving user journeys that traverse software, hardware, physical procedures, and operational limitations, streamlining complex systems while preserving critical functionality and user control.
  • Proficient in interaction design, information architecture, and visual design, with a background in conducting user research and usability tests, integrating findings into product development.
  • Confident in managing design end-to-end from discovery through execution, including identifying usability challenges, error sources, and enhancing workflow robustness and efficiency.
  • Effective communicator and facilitator engaging with highly technical stakeholders, adopting a user-focused, analytical, detail-conscious, proactive, and cooperative working style.
  • Educational background in interaction design, product design, human-computer interaction, industrial design, computer science, or equivalent experience; willingness to collaborate on-site in Munich.
  • Mid-level applicants should be comfortable owning defined product segments and workflows independently; senior applicants should also lead ambiguous projects, influence product strategy, align diverse stakeholders, and elevate design standards company-wide.
  • Desirable: Experience designing products integrating software, hardware, and physical interactions—especially scientific instruments or industrial systems; familiarity with lab workflows, sample preparation, equipment setup, experimental workflows, service design, systems thinking, or human factors design.
  • Experience with data visualization, analytics, simulation software, or designing for safety-critical, error-sensitive, high-precision environments is advantageous.
