Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Piping Designer with a minimum of six years' experience in the oil and gas sector, preferably with major contractors or consultants involved in offshore projects. The ideal candidate should be a high school graduate holding a diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Design or Drafting, or possess equivalent relevant experience.
Core Responsibilities
- Create and develop arrangement and detailed conceptual, FEED, study, and detailed design drawings of high technical quality with clear and professional presentation aimed at simplifying construction processes.
- Develop 3D models ensuring they are clash-free with other disciplines.
- Ensure that design deliverables are completed and issued according to project specifications, client requirements, Level 2 and 3 project procedures, and within set timelines.
- Understand contract scope of work, specifications, schedules, and interdisciplinary requirements, raising concerns as necessary and taking initiative to resolve issues promptly.
- Identify scope changes and initiate change notifications through the Change Management system, providing supporting documentation and estimates for variation orders.
- Coordinate with all disciplines to produce clash-free designs and incorporate input into discipline-specific drawings.
- Maintain clear documentation of significant communications and share with discipline leads and supervisors.
- Assist in preparing cost estimates, proposals, job scope changes, execution statements, work schedules, and manhour calculations.
- Raise technical queries to clarify scope, obtain missing information, and ensure adherence to client procedures, specifications, standards, and operational needs.
- Participate in finalizing deliverables and philosophies, attend project kickoffs, vendor meetings, design reviews, and offshore site surveys as needed.
- Research and adapt customer standards to prepare project-specific design procedures and standards for client approval.
- Manage master drawing and document files, including archiving deliverables and reviewing drawings from other disciplines and vendors.
- Identify drawing or model items lacking sufficient data (HOLDS), report updates to lead designers, and maintain standard holds lists.
- Generate and review Inter-Discipline Check (IDC) documentation and perform design verification through Single Discipline Checks (SDC) and IDCs.
- Prepare and maintain material and weight data take-offs and assist fabrication teams in resolving construction difficulties related to design.
- Monitor progress, maintain deliverables registers, and ensure compliance with project execution plans and archiving requirements.
- Keep management informed on project activities, including manpower and budget status.
- Support project reporting, error identification, and solutions proposals.
- Engage in design reviews, audits, and capture lessons learned and knowledge objects into client systems.
- Mentor less experienced and trainee designers on procedures, standards, software, and technical queries.
- Contribute to maintaining and developing departmental technical standards and guidelines.
- Prepare and review piping design deliverables such as 3D model specifications, piping and equipment scopes, plot plans, vessel sketches, equipment location drawings, piping arrangement plans and details, layouts, studies, support drawings, and pipe stress isometrics.
- Conduct 3D model clash checks, produce interdisciplinary clash reports, and participate in resolution meetings.
- Review vendor documents related to piping and equipment interfaces and offer feedback.
- Travel to fabrication yards or offshore locations as necessary to aid in mechanical completion, hookup, and commissioning activities.
Education and Eligibility
Requires a high school diploma plus a diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Design or Drafting, or equivalent experience. Candidates should have at least six years of industry experience with offshore projects in oil and gas.
