Role Overview

The Residential Worker B is responsible for maintaining a secure and safe setting for both residents and visitors within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise resident activities while providing personal support, practical help, and encouragement; manage secure storage and accurate documentation of prescribed medications.
• Maintain detailed records of daily events through logbooks and occurrence reports.
• Collaborate with referral sources and external agencies like welfare, police, and parole in urgent cases.
• Manage client care related to security issues, including conducting bed checks and room/personal inspections as necessary.
• Perform inspection and security assessments of the property and premises following established policies.
• Handle client admissions, orientations, and ensure comprehension and enforcement of facility rules, including discipline when needed.
• Prepare or provide simple meals for residents when required.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Educational and Certification Requirements

• High school diploma is mandatory.
• Completion of specialized courses up to six months is preferred (e.g., Addictions Facilities, Mental Health, Youth Worker/Case Management).
• Relevant certifications such as Addictions Counselling Courses are expected.
• Candidates must adhere to precautionary health measures including immunizations, first aid/CPR certification, non-violent crisis intervention training, and providing a valid Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC) at their own expense.

Experience

Candidates should possess between three months to one year of prior related experience, particularly in frontline social services roles.

Work Requirements and Conditions

• Moderate physical activity including keyboard use, lifting items under 40 lbs, and standing/walking.
• Continuous vigilance and focus required when monitoring surroundings and interacting with clients.
• Occasional handling of minor financial transactions and responsibility for personal resource management.
• Work is conducted in an emergency overnight shelter environment with exposure to challenging conditions such as verbal abuse, angry or abusive individuals, and isolation.
• The role involves shift work from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am, totaling 84 hours bi-weekly.
• Use of a panic button and minimal travel is expected.
• Potential exposure to hazards including physical attacks, infectious diseases, bodily fluids, sharp objects, and other dangerous situations.

Compensation

The salary ranges between $18.30 and $22.87 per hour, with a maximum of $27.44, dependent on skills, experience, and market factors. Generally, compensation is offered between $22 and $24 per hour based on experience.
