Position Overview

The Reporter position at Ummah Square is a full-time role located on-site in Lagos State, Nigeria. The successful candidate will investigate, collect, and verify data concerning ethical businesses, market developments, and community matters relevant to Ummah Square's audience.

Key Duties

Conduct interviews and attend various events to gather newsworthy information.
Develop story ideas and produce concise, accurate, and compelling news articles and feature stories intended for digital mediums.
Work collaboratively with editors and multimedia teams to generate both written and visual content that embodies Ummah Square’s core values of openness, correctness, and community-centered reporting.
Keep track of updates in the ethical and Halal business sectors and ensure balanced and reliable news coverage.

Qualifications and Skills

Proven expertise in reporting, including data collection, verification, and story crafting.
Exceptional writing abilities suited to news and journalistic content that is clear and engaging.
Strong communication skills for interviewing, engaging stakeholders, and partnering with internal teams.
Basic multimedia competencies to handle photography, short video clips, or audio elements aiding digital storytelling.
Preferred educational background: degree or diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, or related disciplines.
Solid understanding of ethical journalism practices, fact-checking processes, and report precision is highly valued.
Familiarity with digital publishing tools, social media use, and strategies for audience engagement is advantageous.
Awareness of the ethical and Halal business environment, coupled with alignment to Ummah Square's principles of credibility, trustworthiness, and community service, is beneficial.
