Role Overview
The Epidemiology and Real World Science (RWS) team at Alexion–AstraZeneca's Rare Disease Unit focuses on accelerating access to novel therapies by advancing the scientific application of Real World Data (RWD). You will aid in deploying RWD initiatives across rare disease programs, following AstraZeneca's established best practices and standards, leveraging a robust foundation in Real World Evidence (RWE) and internal datasets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with advanced secondary analyses of data derived from electronic medical records, insurance claims, and primary observational sources as dictated by Therapeutic Area (TA) RWE strategies.
- Collaborate closely with various stakeholders in a fast-paced analytics environment to conceptualize and deliver meaningful analyses.
- Provide methodological guidance and technical recommendations to support decisions on study design, selection of data partners, and RWE data use guidelines for internal observational studies.
- Support oversight efforts for vendors and contractors involved in data-related workstreams.
- Maintain comprehensive awareness of potential external RWE partners' capabilities, particularly pertaining to US and emerging markets.
- Consistently apply and develop best practices in Real World Data Science across different domains and with varied stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master's degree or higher in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related disciplines.
- Experience includes academic projects, internships, or a minimum of two years professional work within pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or consulting sectors.
Preferred Skills
- Passion for programming, eager to engage in coding tasks and continuous learning.
- Strong interest in novel methods to leverage real world data in medical advancements.
- Knowledge or exposure to electronic medical records, disease registries, or claims databases.
- Familiarity with clinical data standards, medical vocabularies, and ontologies (e.g., ICD-9/10, SNOMED).
- Basic understanding or enthusiasm for pharmacoepidemiology, statistics, machine learning, or data science methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in SQL and either R or Python programming languages.
Work Environment and Additional Information
This position is office-based, requiring the ability to use computers, engage in communication through phone, video, and electronic means, solve problems creatively, collaborate actively, and be generally available during regular business hours.
