Job description

About the Role

This strategic leadership opportunity is tailored for an experienced professional eager to influence the ongoing development and operational performance of Pharmacy services within the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. As the Pharmacy Business & Performance Manager, you will drive the evolution and growth of pharmacy offerings, oversee business initiatives, and ensure ongoing service improvements across the Trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide both strategic direction and operational oversight for Pharmacy, ensuring robust financial stewardship, effective performance monitoring, and strong collaboration across the Trust.
  • Assume delegated responsibility for management and expansion of clinical trials and research, leading income generation and continuity of services—acting with authority in the absence of other senior managers.
  • Lead Trust-wide projects to bolster efficiency, increase revenue, reduce costs, and safeguard governance, regulatory, contractual, and financial compliance.
  • Function as a lead resource for Pharmacy, supporting organizational growth through commercial ventures and by ensuring reliable delivery of departmental services.
  • Shape the strategic trajectory of Pharmacy services, fostering productive business partnerships and meeting defined growth objectives.
  • Report directly to the Director of Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation, carrying accountability for financial management and for sustaining or expanding partnerships, both internal and external.
  • Participate in the Trust’s On Call Management and Divisional bed rota as required.

Organisation Overview

The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust is a key member of the BSW Hospitals Group, an alliance committed to providing outstanding care across more than one million people. With over 17,600 staff, an annual budget of £1.6 billion, and ambitious plans for innovation, the Trust champions diversity, compassion, and collaborative progress to improve community health outcomes and enhance the staff experience.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s level or equivalent management qualification.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification.
  • Formal project management certification.
  • Significant management experience in an acute NHS Trust, ideally with exposure to pharmacy operations.
  • Track record in business and service planning, including authoring business cases and plans.
  • Successful collaboration with clinicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing budgets and staff, and applying improvement methodologies.
  • Strong capabilities in initiating work streams and overseeing complex contracts, service level agreements, and business development initiatives.
  • Competence in preparing, analysing, and monitoring detailed reports and policies.

Eligibility and Additional Information

  • Candidates must demonstrate eligibility to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship may not be available; review current immigration guidance before applying.
  • This position involves direct contact with vulnerable individuals and will require a Disclosure and Barring Service check in line with relevant legislation.

The Trust offers a supportive environment focused on staff wellbeing, professional development, and innovative healthcare initiatives, with facilities such as a staff pool and opportunities for career growth as part of a values-driven organisation.
