Position Overview
The Community Development Officer supports the execution of community upliftment initiatives by working closely with local groups, coordinating community-related activities, and offering administrative support to enhance community welfare. The role ensures that operational activities comply with social performance standards, human rights guidelines, and statutory requirements, aiming to sustain livelihoods and foster harmonious relationships around the operational sites.
Responsibilities
- Engage actively with local communities and stakeholders through outreach efforts.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing community development projects and events.
- Gather and compile relevant project data and generate progress reports.
- Deliver administrative support including filing, managing correspondence, and data entry tasks for the sustainability team.
- Coordinate with community members, NGOs, and governmental bodies to aid project execution.
- Support needs assessment and facilitate capacity-building programs for community groups.
- Monitor project activities and contribute to reporting on milestones and outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possession of a tertiary degree in Public Administration, Sociology, Development Studies, or equivalent.
- Between one to three years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the mining or extractive sectors.
- Proven track record in community engagement, public affairs, or external relations, preferably in corporate or nonprofit settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication aptitude tailored for diverse audiences.
- Good knowledge of local cultures and customs, with fluency in Akan dialects such as Wassa, Fante, or Twi considered advantageous.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities to nurture and sustain effective stakeholder relations.
- Skillful in strategic thinking, problem solving, and development of complex communication and engagement plans.
- Demonstrated commitment to corporate social responsibility and community impact objectives.
- Proficient in conflict resolution and mobilization strategies.
- Hold a valid Ghanaian driver’s license with competency in driving light vehicles.
