Role Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our Vista Switchgear team. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed mechanical drawings for switchgear projects adhering to manufacturing standards and supporting related departments to ensure smooth production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create production drawings and bills of materials for Vista manufacturing that comply with CSA, ANSI, and UL standards, utilizing engineering concepts related to materials, and mechanical and electrical systems.
- Design detailed steel parts, assemblies, bus components, and compile associated bills of materials using MicroStation and Solid Edge software.
- Manage engineering change notices and orders for product releases and design modifications.
- Deliver customized Vista production drawings punctually, aligned with internal drawing standards and production timelines.
- Prepare engineering design packages that are ready for final review and quality assurance following group practices.
- Evaluate and suggest potential custom features and applications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, welding, and assembly teams to support production activities.
Candidate Profile
- Possess a College Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related disciplines.
- Have between 3 to 5 years of experience in switchgear design or an equivalent mechanical design background.
- Proficient in 2D drafting tools such as MicroStation or AutoCAD and 3D modeling with Solid Edge.
- Understand sheet metal design, drafting principles, and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrate familiarity with CSA, IEEE, and NEMA standards applicable to switchgear products.
- Display strong interpersonal communication, keen attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience preparing medium-voltage protection drawings is advantageous.
- Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical and Work Environment
Role involves typical minor physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, stair climbing, and handling objects up to 20 lbs. The workplace environment is generally comfortable with minimal exposure to disagreeable conditions.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is approximately $66,099 to $87,578.26, with actual pay based on experience, skills, performance, and education. This role may also qualify for a variable annual incentive plan targeting 4% of base salary.
