Role Overview

The Manager of Procurement Business Partnering will lead a newly centralised procurement hub, advancing beyond an advisory role to fully own a sizable delivery team responsible for executing sourcing strategies, driving transactional excellence, and managing contract lifecycles across the company. This influential position encompasses procurement categories in health services, injury prevention, corporate services, technology, and data, with an aggregate spend exceeding NZD 4 billion.

The goal is to enable efficient procurement by partnering with business units early in their processes, fostering quicker, more effective results. Candidates should be adept at multitasking, welcoming challenges, and passionate about developing their teams. Reporting directly to the Head of Enterprise Procurement, this role offers the chance to drive significant organisational change by elevating the procurement function into a centre of excellence, with a focus on automation, simplification, and standardisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership to the procurement delivery team and embed the business partnership operational model.
• Manage, coach, and develop a large team of procurement specialists aligned with various business areas.
• Establish annual operational plans with business units ensuring resources meet demand.
• Optimize processes alongside procurement leadership to standardize workflows and increase efficiency.
• Serve as the principal senior stakeholder liaison for procurement delivery issues and escalation point for critical risks.

Required Experience and Skills

• Minimum five years' leadership experience in procurement, shared services, or centre of excellence teams within sizeable, complex organisations.
• Deep procurement leadership background, spanning strategic sourcing, enterprise procurement, commercial and contract management, and governance.
• Strong familiarity with governmental procurement policies, delegated financial authorities, conflict of interest controls, and public sector procurement standards.
• Expertise in managing high-volume RFX processes, applying Whole of Life Cost analyses, and driving operational excellence with structured delivery pipelines.
• Outstanding stakeholder engagement and influencing abilities, capable of nurturing trusted partnerships and executive-level outcome delivery.
• Proven capacity to implement change, scale teams, handle competing priorities, refine procedures, and cultivate continuous improvement culture.
• Excellent commercial insight, critical thinking, and strategic problem-solving, coupled with a leadership style promoting collaboration, accountability, and high performance.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand is a mandatory requirement.

Additional Information and Benefits

• This permanent, Wellington-based position offers a salary between NZD 164,705 and 210,000 depending on experience.
