The Role

As a Maintenance Fitter, your primary focus will be ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of machinery and equipment. Your responsibilities will include emergency repairs, scheduled preventative maintenance, comprehensive overhauls, and proposing enhancements to boost plant efficiency. You will operate within a dedicated team in a supportive setting where your expertise has significant impact. This role demands flexibility to work all shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults and conduct timely breakdown repairs to minimize production interruptions
  • Implement preventative and predictive maintenance plans for machinery and plant equipment
  • Inspect, test, service, dismantle, repair, replace, and reassemble mechanical components
  • Assist during machine and product changeovers to maintain optimal line performance
  • Troubleshoot and fine-tune equipment to enhance operational reliability and productivity
  • Maintain and refurbish pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, palletisers, packaging and related machinery
  • Perform maintenance activities on hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Participate in mechanical equipment installation, commissioning, and modifications
  • Conduct general upkeep of plant and building infrastructure as required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects, refurbishment efforts, and maintenance-driven reliability initiatives
  • Collaborate with planning and site teams to refine preventative maintenance tasks, work procedures, schedules, and parts availability
  • Keep accurate maintenance documentation including work orders, reports, and system updates
  • Engage actively in team meetings to aid problem-solving and drive ongoing enhancements
  • Adhere strictly to Kraft Heinz’s Food Safety, Environmental, Health and Safety, GMP, HACCP, and site compliance protocols

Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or a comparable qualification
  • Prior experience in food manufacturing (FMCG) or related production environment is preferred
  • Mechanically trade-qualified fitter with demonstrated maintenance experience in manufacturing settings
  • Proficient at fault diagnosis and repair of production and packaging machinery
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems such as pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, and palletisers
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals
  • Experience in welding and fabrication, particularly stainless steel, is a plus
  • Familiarity with workshop machinery, including lathes and milling machines, is desirable
  • Good knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance
  • Basic electrical knowledge including sensors, timing mechanisms, and machine interfaces
  • Experienced with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or similar tools
  • Outstanding problem-solving capability, attention to detail, and structured approach to work
  • Capable of working independently and maintaining performance under pressure
  • Effective communicator able to collaborate with multiple departments

Additional Preferred Attributes

  • Welding certification
  • Valid forklift license
  • Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) training or willingness to undergo site-specific training
  • Restricted electrical license
  • Experience with predictive maintenance technologies and techniques
  • Exposure to automation or robotics
