Interaction Designer - Google Maps

About the Role

Google is seeking an Interaction Designer to help create intuitive, user-centered product experiences for Google Maps. The role involves transforming complex user tasks into clear, engaging flows through wireframes, mockups, and prototypes, all while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary UX, Engineering, and Product Management teams. You will help evolve Google's design language, spearheading innovation and applying emerging technologies including generative AI to craft proactive, immersive experiences that empower users' real-world navigation and discovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Design comprehensive product experiences from initial concept through launch.
• Work collaboratively with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Data Scientists, and Content strategists.
• Incorporate new technologies, interaction paradigms, and AI capabilities to develop cutting-edge user experiences.
• Create detailed user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and interaction designs that clearly convey design objectives.
• Use rapid prototyping and continuous experimentation to validate concepts and iterate swiftly.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• At least one year of experience in interaction or product design within UX design.
• A portfolio or website showcasing relevant design work, with accessible viewing links provided.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one year leading design projects.
• Familiarity with user-centered design methodologies.
• Experience developing prototypes and utilizing generative AI tools.
• Proven ability to manage full design processes from start to finish.
• Background in designing consumer-facing digital products.
• Strong skills in visual design and aesthetics.

This position is based onsite in San Francisco, CA, though applicants may select their preferred work location from New York, NY; Mountain View, CA; or San Francisco, CA. Compensation: Salary ranges from $109,000 to $156,000 annually in the US, complemented by a 15% bonus target, equity offerings, and benefits.
