Position Overview

Working under the supervision of the Manager of Environmental Services, the Housekeeping Aide is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and order in assigned areas of the Portage Regional Health Centre. The role primarily involves general cleaning duties throughout the facility. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in prioritizing tasks and selecting work methods, adhering to organizational policies and values.

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in assigned facility areas ensuring a safe environment.
• Perform routine housekeeping tasks across various parts of the health centre.
• Use independent judgment to prioritize work and adapt to unusual situations.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum education: Grade 10 (Manitoba standard) or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience in industrial or commercial housekeeping.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingualism is an asset especially for designated bilingual positions.
• Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely and follow manufacturer and organizational procedures.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive work relationships.
• Problem-solving aptitude related to job responsibilities.
• Flexibility to adapt to procedural or environmental changes.
• Respect and promote cultural diversity in a diverse community setting.
• Maintain confidentiality across various media formats.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license with an insured vehicle and a minimum liability insurance of $1,000,000.
• Good attendance and work record.

Physical and Work Conditions

• Must meet physical and mental demands of the role.
• Work environment is free from hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
• Availability for occasional evening and weekend shifts.
• May need to travel to other regional health facilities as required.

Additional Information

• The position is full-time, permanent, onsite at Portage Regional Health Centre with 7.75 work hours daily and approximately 2015 annual base hours.
• Salary is $20.35 per hour.
• Anticipated start date is August 31, 2026.
• Union affiliation: CUPE.
