Freelance Video Editor (Contract)

About the Role

HAUS, a pioneering public relations and creative services agency specializing in deep technology startups and scaleups, seeks a seasoned freelance Video Editor. This contract position offers the opportunity to contribute to dynamic projects supporting over 100 organizations across sectors like AI, aerospace, biotech, climate, defense, and more, all while working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and assemble polished videos from 3D animation renders, motion graphics, voice overs, music, sound design, and live action footage, transforming creative guidance and approved storyboards into final products including hero brand videos, product explainers, launch content, investor presentations, and social media clips.
• Edit to the rhythm of voice over scripts, licensed or bespoke music, and sound design, ensuring pacing enhances the visual story, knowing when to cut on or off beat to strengthen the final piece beyond its individual components.
• Apply color grading to unify disparate elements such as 3D renders, motion graphics, and live footage, producing seamless, branded looks with clean audio mixes, accurate leveling, correct codec exports, and rigorously quality controlled final deliverables tailored to platform requirements.
• Produce multi-format and multi-platform content variations, delivering versions tailored for website heroes, investor decks, and various social media platforms with differing aspect ratios and durations, efficiently choosing when to reframe versus recut content to retain integrity and rhythm.
• Maintain organized project management practices by managing source files, media assets, version control, and coordination with 3D and motion teams to ensure timelines remain current and workflow smooth during multi-week projects with multiple stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with directors, motion designers, and 3D teams, proactively communicating needs and providing editorial feedback to ensure deliverables meet project goals and creative vision.

Required Qualifications

• A passion for cutting-edge deep technology and excitement about emerging technical fields.
• Proven professional experience editing commercial, brand, agency, or motion-focused projects, with a portfolio highlighting editorial precision in short-form videos ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes including music and voice over integration.
• Expert proficiency in industry-standard editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro; strong understanding of codecs, color spaces, render pipelines, and delivery standards for broadcast, online, and social platforms; familiarity with proxy workflows for intensive 3D content.
• An acute editorial sense for pacing and rhythm, selecting timing to create tension, flow, and impact intentionally on every frame.
• Competent color grading skills, preferably with DaVinci Resolve, capable of producing polished, consistent results and knowing when to escalate to dedicated colorists for advanced work.
• Basic audio editing and mixing ability for dialogue, voice over, and music to achieve broadcast-quality sound; experience in knowing when to consult specialist sound designers for refined mixes.
• Comfort and experience working with 3D animation assets, managing image sequences, alpha channels, render passes, and coordinating with animators for proper delivery formats; ability to manage evolving render revisions without disrupting edits.
• Expertise delivering across diverse platforms with knowledge of aspect ratios, safe zones, and platform-specific technical specifications such as LinkedIn, X, Instagram Reels, and YouTube; discernment in reframe versus recut decisions.
• Demonstrated project management skills for file and version control, ensuring projects remain organized and handoff-ready to other editors even during extensive timelines.
• Strong communication skills tailored to remote collaboration via Slack and Zoom, capable of discussing pacing, story, technical needs, and client feedback effectively.
• Tech-savvy mindset with genuine enthusiasm for technological innovation in sectors like AI, robotics, biotech, aerospace, aiding in conveying complex technologies clearly through video.

Bonus Skills

• Proficiency in After Effects for motion editing and finishing touches.
• Familiarity with sound design tools such as Pro Tools or Adobe Audition.
• Advanced color grading experience in Resolve and basic compositing or VFX cleanup skills.
• Previous exposure to aerospace, defense, robotics, semiconductors, medical device, or industrial visualization projects.

Compensation & Contract Details

Competitive remuneration commensurate with experience and market standards. The position is fully remote with flexible work location requirements and is on a freelance contract basis.
