Position Overview
Our client is an established international company with over a century of history that is currently relocating parts of its European operations to Dubai and developing its local office from the ground up. Currently, the Dubai branch consists of only three employees; therefore, this is a key standalone finance role with substantial accountability and visibility. The Financial Accountant will be responsible for setting up and managing the finance function locally, providing financial reporting, analysis, budget management, forecasts, controls, and commercial insights to support business growth.
This role suits candidates comfortable with working autonomously, creating processes, and adapting within an evolving business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily financial accounting tasks for the Dubai office
- Compile monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements
- Manage general ledger operations including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and account reconciliations
- Lead month-end and year-end closing procedures for the local entity
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies
- Generate precise management reports and summaries on financial performance
- Analyze revenues, expenses, margins, operating costs, and profitability metrics
- Conduct budget versus actual analyses and explain significant financial variances
- Assist in annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Build financial models and reporting tools to facilitate executive decision-making
- Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, receivables, payables, and financial obligations
- Implement local finance policies, processes, and internal controls
- Support the transfer of finance operations and reporting responsibilities from Europe to Dubai
- Liaise with European headquarters and other international finance teams
- Ensure compliance with local statutory, tax, audit, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Support both internal and external audits, providing necessary financial documentation
- Collaborate with banks, auditors, tax advisors, suppliers, and service providers
- Deliver commercial insights and financial analysis to drive growth of the Dubai operation
- Proactively identify improvements to reporting accuracy, efficiency, and financial controls
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Professional certifications strongly preferred: ACCA, ACA, CPA, CMA, or CIMA
- Proven experience in financial accounting, management reporting, and financial analysis
- Experience managing month-end closing, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Thorough knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial modeling
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial accounting software
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, working capital, and financial controls
- Experience working independently or within a small finance team is highly desirable
- Ability to establish processes and thrive in a developing local business structure
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with international stakeholders
- High attention to detail, accountability, and capacity to work independently
- Willingness to work onsite at the Jebel Ali office five days a week
Mandatory Industry Experience
Applicants must have relevant experience in at least one of the following industries to be considered:
- Agriculture
- Commodities
- Tobacco
- Oil and gas

Preferred Profile
- Experience supporting the establishment of new entities, offices, or regional operations
- Prior experience with European-headquartered companies
- Exposure to international reporting frameworks and cross-border finance activities
- Ability to combine financial accounting responsibilities with commercial financial analysis
- Capability to work independently without an established local finance team
