Engineering Manager - Software Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead software engineering teams responsible for delivering critical platforms in the health insurance domain at Aditya Birla Health Insurance, part of the Aditya Birla Group. This full-time, onsite role located in Thane/Mumbai reports to the Head of Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical solutioning for new projects and improvements within core insurance systems and digital experiences, ensuring scalability, security, audit compliance, and maintainability.
• Review design solutions and code quality, enforcing engineering best practices and organizational standards.
• Collaborate across Product, Business, Security, Architecture, and Operations for alignment between technology initiatives and business objectives.
• Manage system performance, reliability, and resilience at both application and database layers, focusing on MS SQL performance tuning including query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
• Oversee monitoring, incident management, root cause analysis, and preventive strategy development to minimize repeated issues.
• Define and enforce performance service level agreements (SLAs) and service level objectives (SLOs), ensuring preparedness for high-impact business events.
• Own end-to-end delivery from requirements through deployment and post-release stabilization, covering estimation, sprint and dependency management, and adherence to SDLC and compliance suitable for the BFSI/Insurance sector.
• Coordinate efforts with QA, DevOps, Security, Infrastructure, and external vendors for seamless release cycles and operational excellence.

Required Skills and Experience

• Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in ASP.NET (including web applications and APIs) and Microsoft SQL Server, covering data modeling, stored procedures, and advanced performance tuning.
• Familiarity with Azure services such as queue and cache management.
• Good understanding of integration patterns, application security fundamentals, and production issue troubleshooting.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software delivery methodologies is an advantage.

• Proven ability to coach and mentor teams, manage performance, and contribute to hiring to build high-performing groups.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management, expectation setting, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong sense of ownership, good decision-making capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.

Domain Expertise

• Experience in the Health Insurance sector is preferred, with broad knowledge in BFSI.
• Exposure to Health & Wellness domains is a significant plus.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance, audit processes, and governed environments is desirable.

• Engineering solution quality, reduction in rework, scalable and secure architecture.
• System uptime, performance improvements, reduction in incidents, and effective root cause resolution.
• Timely and predictable project deliveries with reduced defects and improved release stability.
