Overview
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks dedicated and safety-focused individuals to fill the role of Employee in Charge (EIC) in Albany, GA. This pivotal position is responsible for ensuring the safety of work conducted on railroad rights-of-way by coordinating and overseeing safe worksite operations.
Role Responsibilities
- Execute on-track safety duties, including installation of derails, track signage, and other safety equipment.
- Prepare daily field reports documenting work activities and any observed rule infractions.
- Coordinate job-site activities ensuring clear communication and safety standards adherence.
- Maintain radio contact with dispatchers and train crews to relay status updates regarding worksite safety.
- Lead comprehensive job briefings with all crew members prior to track entry to ensure clarity and safety compliance.
- Strictly enforce all applicable railroad, state, and federal safety regulations and policies.
Candidate Requirements
- Proficient with digital tools such as tablets and smartphones to support train movement coordination.
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively, often for multiple months consecutively.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least two years of railroad industry experience, preferably within maintenance of way departments.
- Successful completion of federal, client-specific, or company-specific safety training as required.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in an outdoor field environment adjacent to active railroad tracks, requiring travel commitments of 50% to 85% of the time.
