About the Role

At Ashby, the Design Engineer position uniquely combines design and coding expertise, enabling innovative development by blending flexible UX/UI design with technical implementation. This role is integral to our product used by hundreds of thousands weekly and involves crafting solutions that influence the data model and front-end experience simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance and expand our proprietary design system for product-wide consistency and flexibility.
  • Redesign and implement new user flows in the mobile web app including customer engagement and polished UI development.
  • Collaborate with product engineers to refine information hierarchy and improve the usability and scannability of assessment displays for recruiters.
  • Handle diverse tasks, including customer issue investigations alongside high-level technical contributions.

Candidate Profile

  • No more than 2 years industry experience for Junior Design Engineer applicants or 2+ years for mid/senior roles.
  • Demonstrated skill in both design and engineering, with a portfolio showcasing UI/UX and coding projects.
  • Strong visual design ability and a taste for quality execution.
  • Comfort with fast shipping, iteration based on live feedback, and a preference for taking ownership over structured processes.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative team setting and engage in diverse responsibilities.
